  1. I've enjoyed looking through your site, I don't know very much about my Grandfather and his side of the family do to my Grandmother His name was James Reid born in Paisley Scotland I believe it was around 1915. My dad Iain Reid was born in 1945 and came to Canada when he was 2yrs. old. I would love to find out more about this side of my family Thanks for this site

  2. Just looking around, great website.

  3. Hello Hill

I am married to Brian, son of Florence and Alex Kirk. This is a fantastic site and so much work has been put into it, a real credit to you. Brian and I enjoyed reading it and going to the various links including his Aunt Ann's. So many memories for anyone linked with the family.

We also had a look at part of my family tree, another Ballyclare family this is the link http://www.rjbw.net/GRANGEbook.html

my maiden name is Baxter and my paternal grandmother was a Grange. Hope you enjoy reading .

    Thanks again.

  4. I found your web site while Googling Ballyeaston, which is the ancestral home of my Wilsons. Rachel Wilson of Ballyeaston married Robert Glasgow of Kilwaughter at the Old Kilwaughter and Larne Presbyterian Church in 1729. Rachel's only brother was Archibald Wilson, who died in 1795. He lived perhaps in Tildarg, perhaps in Ballyeaston. I have visited Ballyeaston twice in the past five years, and I even attended a Sunday service at the Ballyeaston First Presbyterian Church, which I believe is the church of my ancestors. Unfortunately, the records do not go back to the 1700s, so I can't find their names on the roll. Robert and Rachel Glasgow's son, James, emigrated to South Carolina (then an American Colony) in about 1772-74. I enjoyed reading your web site, and especially loved the pictures! ~ Donna Jean Glasgow, Springdale, Arkansas, U.S.A.

  5. Stumbled on this site whilst checking the ratings for my own Webeden sites (see www.bluecoatboy.co.uk). You have obviously put in a lot more work than I have on my couple of ancestral history pages, but only today someone spotted my site and it looks like I have discovered a long-lost branch of my family! Excellent stuff!

  6. Site is fabulous!! thanks, Helen K.

  7. What a great site and the time you spent setting it up well done. My father was born 1920's James Patrick Reid from Greenlough Portglenone and moved to Coleraine over sixty years ago and married Jean Crawford both now have passed away.I really enjoyed looking photo's and family history.

  10. Had a lot of fun reading about the history, most of which I didn't have a clue about. I have been living in Florida for 30 years now .

  11. hello

Great to read about the family tree a lot of time has been spend setting this up and it is extremely interesting. This is Paul Wilson son of marie and grandson of rudy just a quick update we now have 6 children the last a girl called Alexandra. Keep updating the site with more photos if you can.

  12. Hello. I'm Corinne, Marbeth Reid's daughter. I just stumbled across this website and I think it's brilliant. It's wonderful to see photographs of my mum and grandparents as well as a detailed family history. I didn't realise I had family that lived in that house near Ballyeaston church! I've walked past it so many times. It's been really interesting to read about my relatives and I would love to find out more about them. Thank you very much!

  13. My grandfather was from Kilrea Ireland (John Reid b.1899 d. 1969)

He came to Canada in 1925, came west to Calgary ,met my grandmother Eva Douglas(1907-1989)who came from

    Gorebridge Scotland.

My father said that there was family in Philadelphia, but we don't know.

I can't go back farther than my grandfather because he would never talk about Ireland.

He must have had tough times over there.

  14. Hi Hill,

I thought your site was excellent and very interesting to read

  15. Hi,

Came accross this greatly informative site while researching the area, as It looks like I will be buying a house on the 'Ballycorr Road' {purely coincidence? or fate?}.

My roots trace back to Scotish settlers in Portadown area in approximatly the 1700's. I think my brother recalls visiting a grave of John & Fanny Reid from around the late 1800's {both lived to their 80's}. My Grandfather {David Reid} moved to East Belfast early 1900's. My Father Gordon Reid {WW2 RAF Fighter pilot, then a Butcher & in the 1950's was a cyclist for Ireland holding many local records and 2 World Championships in Italy}, had 3 brothers: Eric - Settled in Manchester after WW2 {RAF bomber pilot}, Cecil {RAF Regiment in WW2 & Burma, still lives in East Belfast}, and Harry {too young for WW2, then H&W till his retirement}.

I was brought up in East Belfast {near Stormont} and first moved to Ballyclare in 1993 when i married Angela. We have 2 sons, Jacob {1996} and Joshua {1999} and currently live in Huntingdale, Ballyclare.

I'd love to know if anyone thinks that their might be a connection?

  16. I have really enjoyed looking at your website and agree with other posters in your guestbook that you have done an excellent job. My husband is a descendant of James Seaton Reid b 1798 and Elizabeth Arrott b 1802 and I have only just begun the task of researching the family tree which I have quickly found that it is a huge family and full of wonderful interesting things. James and Elizabeths son (George Bellis Reid) came here to NZ and became the second headmaster at Port Albert School after originally teaching at Hunua on his arrival. The family has stayed in the area of Port Albert which is just north of Auckland and has quite a history from 1880 here. The surname of Elizabeth which is Arrott has become a middle name for each first born son of the next generation and therefore my husband and son both are privilidged to have it. I have yet to read your website in detail as I have just saved it as a favourite but guess I will come back when I have time to spare. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication it certainly helps others following along behind.

    Regards Rose
